Business Improvement Districts (BID) programmes operate in over 50 areas within Auckland where local business and property owners have agreed to work together. BIDs in the Auckland region represent over 30,000 businesses and a Capital Value in excess of $72 billion (2022).

Auckland Council (via their BID Policy 2022) supports Business Associations operating BID programmes by collecting the targeted rates and providing these funds, in their entirety, as a BID targeted rate grant to associations like the MBVBA. Auckland Council applies the MBVBA BID targeted rate which is collected from the ratepayer /property owner or indirectly by the business owner/tenant located within the MBVBA BID boundary area.

The MBVBA BID targeted rate is calculated as a percentage on the capital value of the business rated properties located within the MBVBA BID boundary area,

100% of the targeted rate collected by Auckland Council is returned to the Business Association in four quarterly grant payments. For more information on the Auckland Council BID programme

Meet Marcella and Shane Howarth Owners of the Mangere Bridge Fresh Choice supermarket. They are committee members who alternate at meetings depending on availability and are strong advocates for the Village. The local store is proudly supported by the local community and they are always keen to hear your thoughts and feedback on the store. You will always get a friendly welcome here and will often see Shane or Marcella out stocking the shelves and talking to shoppers.

Who are we?

An incorporated society in partnership with Auckland Council (BID)

We work with Auckland council as part of the BID programme to ensure the ongoing success of our local village through a Targetted rate that is struck each year to fund the ongoing services, events and continued success of the village. We have a committee that meets six or more times a year and am employed Village Manager to oversee the assocaitions operations. Kate Adams, a community local has been in the role just over nine years and many of the community know Kate and the work she and the committee does. Read more about the work Kate does in the Blog section. The benefits of this partnership ensure funding is available and well managed through the targetted rate, funding grants through council and other organisations to that help provide security patrols, a CCTV across the village, Events and local promotions plus oversight of general maintenance and improvements in the village, along with many other activities.
